This article is intended for 3dcart merchants who are currently using the mail2.3dcartstores.com mail server for their domain email. Merchants meeting this criteria were sent an email notification which linked to this knowledgebase article.
Due to its age and instability, we will be updating the mail2.3dcartstores.com mail server with an updated and more efficient server.
This update will be transparent for the majority of 3dcart users. However, there are some specific situations which may require DNS changes on your part to ensure that your domain’s mail service continues uninterrupted.
If your domain’s DNS is hosted with 3dcart and you are using 3dcart’s email services, then you will not need to make any changes at all. However, if your domain’s DNS is NOT hosted with 3dcart but you are still using 3dcart’s email services, then you will need to update your domain’s DNS to reflect the new mail server.
Here’s how to determine if you need to make any changes to your DNS:
Let’s run a WHOIS lookup
- Go to https://mxtoolbox.com/Whois.aspx and enter your domain name to perform a WHOIS search.
- When the information comes up, make note of the information listed for “Name Servers”
If the Name Servers are listed as dns1.3dcart.com, dns2.3dcart.com, & dns3.3dcart.com then your domain is pointed to 3dcart’s DNS, and you don’t need to make any changes.
However, if the Name Servers are not 3dcart’s, then proceed to the next steps below.
Now let’s look at the MX record information
- Go to https://mxtoolbox.com/ and enter your domain name to perform an MX record lookup.
- When the information comes up, make note of the information listed for “Hostname”
If the MX Record Hostname information does not reference 3dcart or its parent company infomart2000.com, then your domain’s email is not with 3dcart, and you do not need to make any changes.
On the other hand, if the listed MX Record Hostname information is mail.[yourdomain] and mail.infomart2000.com (or mail2.infomart2000.com), then your email is also hosted with 3dcart.
Proceed with the following steps to further determine if you need to make a DNS change
- Click on the “mail.[yourdomain]” link
This will show you the type of record and IP address that mail.[yourdomain] is pointed to.
- Click on the IP address
This will reverse lookup the IP address and tell you its main server domain name.
If this is mail2.3dcartsores.com then you will need to make a DNS change to your domain.
Required DNS Change
In order to have your domain’s email pointed to the correct mail server after the update is complete, you will need to change mail.[yourdomain] from an A record to a CNAME.
In most cases, you will first need to delete the mail.[yourdomain] A Record. Once it is removed, you will then need to create mail.[yourdomain] once again, but this time as a CNAME. As you create this new CNAME, make sure to point it to mail2.3dcartstores.com
Most registrars and DNS host services (i.e. GoDaddy, BlueHost, TuCows, ShopCo, etc) have interfaces that will allow you to make these changes. Unfortunately each service is different, so 3dcart technical support cannot assist with these changes. Please refer to your DNS hosting service’s help in order to making these changes.
Please remember to allow 24 to 48 hours for DNS changes to propagate fully.
